I'll give the early Taranaki series a rest for a while. It's been fascinating finding all these images. The above from around 1974.

Man in plastic New Plymouth 1981.
I'm still scanning for new old work for my exhibition at Puke Ariki in June. The last two weeks have been an adventure, reliving events from 30 plus years ago. What I have scanned (about 100) is just a few negatives from many thousands in storage. They are all in remarkably good condition (so double fixing and extended washing pays off).
Generally I enjoy the sheer quality of medium format Rolleiflex square negs (like the one above) and they seen to have survived a little better than the Leica negs - eg less spotting required etc. On the other hand the 35mm negs are fascinating because of the images either side of previously chosen photographs. As I get older I like the less 'in your face' images and the moments before and after are often more interesting. Moments either side was not so easy with medium format because I was always concerned about wasting the precious 12 frames on 120 film. If this all makes sense.

I have a good mate in New Plymouth whom I go to see often. We have known each other for about 35 years. David Fairey is a stalker like me and this is him getting in one of my photographs in 1979, at the NP races (with his black Leica M4). You can see his work in my links .

Jumbo was often at galas and fairgrounds in New Plymouth. The poor thing was led around all day and never looked happy.
